The newly updated AR 670-1 has made numerous changes and revisions. The most erroneous being that a current enlisted soldier who exceeds the newly implemented tattoo limit, or has sleeve tattoos below the knee or elbows can no longer request a commission. The idea that those soldiers were good enough yesterday but now are no longer "worthy" of a commission is absolutely asinine. By maintaining this policy the Army is saying that officers are better or held to a higher standard than NCO's. If the goal of these new changes is to bring the Army into a more integrated and professional era. Then how can the Army say that a soldier is grandfathered and can continue his/her NCO career but is no longer officer material because of the irreversible ink(color) on their skin?
