reconsider federal marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia possession law and the classification of such crimes.

Created by R.B. on January 28, 2015

First time marijuana possession can be punishable by up to 1 year in jail and a fine of $1,000 dollars. A third offense of marijuana possession and sale of marijuana paraphernalia is automatically considered a felony. Unnecessary resources and money are put into keeping people in jail for marijuana offenses who have committed no violent acts. It's a drain on the economy to have people in jail for these reasons. Given the slow movement of trails within the justice system, people who have been charged with a crime relating to marijuana may not go to trial until three or more years later, after which they may no longer be similar to that person that originally committed the crime. This future judgement for a past crime ruins their new lives that they have worked to build since.
