Christopher Columbus should not be celebrated as a hero. He didn't even "discover" America as is reported in our history books. He and his men committed genocide against the indigenous people of North America. Please re-designate Columbus Day as Indigenous Peoples' Remembrance Day. We can never undo the devastation that was done to the indigenous people of this land, but we can stop insulting them by revering the person who lead the "exploration" that decimated them. Keep the day a national holiday, but stop celebrating a man whose acts were not heroic or remarkable.
