In the aftermath of the leak of NSA programs which were designed to collect data on US Citizens, members of Congress called for the arrest and trial of Edward Snowden on grounds of treason and espionage. Federal Whistleblower Protection, in its current form, does not extend to Mr. Snowden for his disclosure, as his disclosure is considered exposing classified information.
Federal protection should be extended to people that publicly disclose information, even that considered classified and a matter of national security, if that information shows that the federal government or any private organization is violating the inalienable rights of any US citizen as bestowed upon them by the United States Constitution, unless that individual is directly named in a warrant issued by a federal judge.
