Though the use and development of said weapons is considered undesirable and abhorrent, the rising costs of the military budget make the widespread use of such a defensive system once again necessary. This would save costs on other projects, as ballistic missiles/MIRVs and their silos would be far less costly to maintain in comparison to their counterparts, such as the B-2 Spirit, as well as submarines serving in a nuclear deterrent capacity, and even moreso than in prior years due to the advances in computing and automation. Though some of the deterrent should still be kept mobile in the event of a nuclear attack and the need for retaliation, silos ultimately would still be much more cost effective in terms of defense to the American taxpayer.
