Redirect money from the drug war to solving our budget crisis.

Created by A.S. on December 18, 2012

This is a request to the Obama Administration and Congress to massively de-fund the ineffectual, and very expensive, war on drugs, as well as re-organize and prioritize the remaining funding towards it.

De-criminalize all drugs determined to be less dangerous to personal and public safety and health than the legal tobacco and alcohol. Prosecuting and imprisoning people for these drugs is a waste of taxpayer dollars when they do not constitute a significant threat to the public, or even those using these drugs. While drug use overall is dangerous and often deplorable, the current methods for dealing with it have proven ineffective, especially compared to cheaper drug education and rehabilitation programs.

This is a large and logical cut to federal spending in the current fiscal crisis.
