Redo the Electoral System

Created by A.K. on December 02, 2012

Many people are dissatisfied with the electoral college and want the president to be chosen by popular vote. There is one potential problem that must be considered before we adopt that method: what if an election was close enough so that a recount is required? We know how much trouble is involved in recounting the votes of a single state. Imagine that multiplied by fifty.

Perhaps a better solution would be to simply assign one electoral vote to each congressional district and require that the winner have a majority of the votes in that district. If no one got a majority there would be a runoff election between the two candidates who got the most votes.

This method isn't perfect, but I feel it's better. I feel it would make the popular vote count much more accurate.
