The United States has the biggest prison population in the world. A population that is significantly inflated by the "War on Drugs." The federal government should take another look at the "War on Drugs" sentencing guidelines for first time offenders. Guide lines that were established over 30 years ago and are out of date. In 1980 the national deficit was no where near what it is today and trimming back on how much we spend on imprisoning our own citizens that did something that is now legal in two states would help reduce it today. I am not saying the government should be easy on crime but that they should simply revisit an out of date system.
