Retail stores, especially in the summer, leave their doors open, using industrial air conditioners to 'air condition the doorway', dispensing enormous amounts of energy and contributing to climate change.
Closed doors equate to reduced sales and therefore create a "tragedy of the commons" where responsible retailers would be disadvantaged by closing the doors and sealing off refrigerated aisles. This practice is extremely damaging to the environment given the immense resources required to maintain this unsustainable practice.
Make stores equal and sustainable by regulating the practice of open-air air-conditioning, fining retailers who are environmentally negligent.
