To help the current student loan holder find a way to repay their loan or forgive part or all of the interest accrued.
When the economy took a downturn a lot of people lost their jobs and were unable to continue making payments towards their student loans debt.
For example, a student that graduated with a bachelor's degree and $45,000.00 in student loan debt managed to repay the loan down to $35,000 over approximately nine years. Then they lost their job and were unable to make loan payments. The loan is federally held and has a 8.25% locked in interest rate. After three years of on and off work at minimum wage jobs the loan debt has increased to more than what was originally owed due to compounded interest on the principal. How can we find a way to make a positive change for this.
