REDUCE GUN VIOLENCE by enacting a USA Safe Act, modeled after the pioneering legislation from New York

Created by E.M. on January 16, 2013

The United States desperately needs stricter gun controls NOW.

According to the FBI there are 90 gun deaths every day in our country; nearly 40 percent of all firearm purchases are made at gun shows or through private sales and therefore require no background check; and 80 percent of criminals convicted of gun related crimes acquired their weapons through such private transfers.

Recently, New York State passed legislation which takes a comprehensive approach to gun control by:

- Conducting universal background checks.

- Banning assault weapons, and requiring handgun registration.

- Monitoring ammunition sales.

- Attempting to address mental health aspects of violent crimes connected to firearms.

We urge the President to adopt similar policies to reduce gun violence in America.
