Reduce Gun Violence by Providing Mental Health Care to All Children who Need It

Created by B.J. on January 30, 2013

Banning guns to reduce school shootings is difficult and indirect. I suggest that instead we focus on somehow assuring that children who really need therapy have access to it. That would start in preschool and continue through high school or even college. It would help those enduring difficult situations such as bullying, domestic violence, abuse and neglect, and many others. This would help the children who are at risk of exploding into violence, but it would also give support and help to the many more children who never consider killing anyone, but suffer in silence, maybe turning to drugs or gangs. This would require many therapists to be stationed in schools, but the benefits would be far greater than stationing security guards there, and benefit far more children.
