reduce House and Senate salaries to 50-75k instead of the current 174,000 to 223,000 per year and save 60-80 million/yr.

Created by S.F. on November 17, 2012

Currently a junior representative makes $174,000 annually, while the Speaker of the House makes 223,500. I would like to reduce Congressional and Senate salaries to one of two options;

1: $75,000 annually with a maximum pay cap of $90,000 for more senior members

2: create a maximum pay cap that can be no larger than 10% more than the national mean salary -which according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics is currently $45,000- which would be approximately $50,000.

I know this is a difficult road to take, but especially in our current economic situation it could restore faith in government to some degree, and save the U.S. Budget between $63 and $80 million each year.
