Stargazing should be a right of every human being--our ancestors spun endlessly fascinating myths about the stars and developed revolutionary scientific theories from observing their movement through the sky. Yet many children no longer have any idea what a clear night sky looks like. Just as we conserve clean water, wild land, and fresh air, we have a responsibility to preserve the right to stargaze. New technology can reduce light pollution at night, and many lights are on unnecessarily. In addition, light pollution in June makes it difficult for fireflies to find mates. Firefly populations are declining rapidly. Can you imagine children never seeing either the stars or lightning bugs ever again? Reduce light pollution!
