Reduce military spending and apply those funds toward improving and assisting public education.

Billions of dollars were spent on "defense" during the Bush administration. Simultaneously, the administration implemented harmful policies with regard to education, such as The No Child Left Behind Act, and vastly cut down education funding. The current administration has not done enough to prevent even more education cuts from being made. This petition urges the Obama administration to consider cutting military spending (as our occupation of Iraq is nearing its conclusion) and apply these funds to improve our failing public schools. The solution to poor public education is not "punishing" schools with low standardized test scores, it's providing assistance to the schools with the lowest scores so they can improve their curriculum and better educate our children.
