Reduce military spending to year 2000 level. The last year with a balanced budget.

Created by R.D. on December 14, 2012

President Ronald Regan baited the Soviet Union into an arms race. He knew neither country could afford that, but America could sustain it longer. It worked, the Soviet Union completely collapsed. It took many years to balance the budget. Bill Clinton claimed surpluses in 1998, 1999, and 2000, but he raided federal government employee pension fund. In 1998 and 1999 America was still in deficit, but even after accounting for this year 2000 was balanced. Military spending that year was $288 billion. In 2012 dollars that's $386.87 billion. In 2008 military and national security was $700 billion, $799 billion in 2009. 2010 was the first budget passed by you, Mr. Obama, it was $901 billion. For 2012 it's $754 billion. America is repeating the mistakes of the Soviet Union. Stop now.
