Several companies such as Monsanto own the majority of the U.S. agriculture. This compromises the heartiness of the U.S. seed bank. These companies are running the small farmer out of business using strategies such as: 1. Suing farmers for seed patent infringement if the major corporation's seed flies into a farmer's field, 2. The corporations genetically engineer seeds that only respond to that company's own herbicides. 3. The plants are designed not to replicate so seeds have become a yearly expense to farmers. 4. Farmers are told they cannot save seed and reuse the seed of the corporations because that is seed patent infringement. Oh, and 5) These corporations have been allowed to have patents on the majority of genetically enhanced seed in the U.S.
