Reduce the negative health effects of cheap processed meats.

Created by L.W. on April 26, 2014

Processed meats are full of sodium and fat disproportionate to their total size. This results in easily overeating processed meats to exacerbate the negative affects the meat has on your body. My petition would be to remove sodium nitrites and drastically reduce the sodium present in processed meats. This would decrease the risk of heart disease and blood pressure problems in low income families who are forced to buy processed meats because of their high calorie and protein content. Some people's best option for caloric, fat and protein intake is from processed meats because it is cheap due to the low quality of the end product. By reducing the nitrites and sodium present in the meats, we will reduce high blood pressure and pancreatic cancer in the low SES families who eat such products.
