Reduce nuclear arms down to a Minimum Sufficient Deterrent regime to eliminate the potential for nuclear winter.

Created by B.F. on February 21, 2013

As of 2012, there are an estimated 17,000 nuclear warheads in the world. As little as 100 of these warheads, concentrated on cities, oil fields, and industrial hubs could set into motion a nuclear winter which endangers not just "us" or "them", but the entire world. Nuclear winter could have borderline apocalyptic effects on the worlds agriculture, putting billions of lives in immediate jeopardy following a nuclear exchange. Other consequences of even a "mild" nuclear exchange are thinning or even whole destruction of the northern hemispheres ozone layer, putting everyone at risk from unabated UV radiation, smog, and toxic chemicals that can persist for weeks, months, or years in the upper atmosphere. We need to take steps to eliminate this threat as to not put the earth in grave danger.
