Reduce Nuclear Weapons to Zero

Few people realize that nuclear bombs are not usable weapons. They destroy not only a declared target but so much more that they indiscriminately kill noncombattants, violating a basic law of war. One ICBM with its hydrogen bomb could destroy so much of the environment, lifting smoke so high it would weaken sunlight and cause world-wide crop failure. Even threatening their use directly violates several international treaties, which have legal status of our constitution. We have treaty commitments to lead the way to total abolition of them by all nations, which we ignore. These useless, immoral, illegal, and probably suicidal devices cost us billions of dollars. No sound reason for retaining them has ever been advanced. The US would gain enormous prestige & respect if it led the way to zero
