Advances in diagnostics and therapeutics are taking too long to get to patients with cancer who do not have much time to wait. A reason is how long it takes for clinical studies to open. In addition, access to data is often prohibited unless there is patient consent even when the research does not violate privacy rules and has minimal risk. A clinical protocol has to be approved at each institution reinventing the wheel and wasting time. In the era of precision medicine and cancer moonshots it should be easier to understand who is benefiting or not benefitting from new treatments. Access to genomic information linked to clinical outcomes from specific treatments should be easy to get and share in national public research databases. This is needed to bring the right treatments to patients.
