Let's face it, the only reason we all aren't driving electric cars right now is because the limitations on range... who really has 30 minutes to wait for a quick charge?
We should fund the development of an interchangeable battery for all electric cars.
Picture this:
You drive up to your fuel station which now also has solar panels and such providing the power. You push a button and out pops the battery cells from your exterior door panels. The quick change technician swaps in for charged, you're gone. 5 bucks, 5 minutes. Boom. Unlimited range.
Could it not be that simple?
Where the batteries are located or how many are needed will depend on the vehicle but utilizing the same battery is critical to this plan.
