Congress needs a pay cut, but the senators and representatives obviously are not willing to take this step. Congress costs over 77 million dollars per year, with members of Congress making AT LEAST $177,000 and leaders making even more. After only serving for 5 years, senators receive retirement and health benefits for life. Along with this, there is a Cost of Living Adjustment that raises Congress's salary every year unless members choose to reject it. Career politicians are hurting the government and the economy. Please reduce Congress's salary to the median salary in the United States or $45,018. Congressmen should not make almost 4 times the average salary, they should make just as much as the rest of the hard working Americans. Forget about the 1%, Congressmen are in the top 0.5%.
