A petition to reduce salaries for Congress and the President to better reflect the average salaries of the people they represent. It is wrong that the representatives of the people are paid exorbitant amounts of money when the people who pay their salaries struggle to make ends meet. Serving as an elected representative of the people is itself an honor which provides many perks and benefits. These benefits include, but are not limited to, tax payer funded transportation, personal protection and exclusion from being subject to laws that Congress writes. Rank and file members are paid 175k per year, leadership is paid 193k per year and the president is paid 400k per year with a 50k allowance. Meanwhile, the median income for American citizens is 46k. This is wrong.
