Reduce penalties for online misdemeanors like pirating songs or movies

Created by W.C. on February 18, 2013

Downloading a song may seem like a small offense, but the US government believes it is something much worse. Many people, even teenagers, who have downloaded content illegally have been forced to pay fines in the range of $10,000 per song downloaded. The government may be trying to make examples out of these people, but the prices they must pay are simply ridiculous. A standard penalty for downloading content should be enforced, and a set of legislators that truly understand the nature of the internet is necessary.
