Reduce requested foreign aide to Uganda in the next fiscal budget due to Uganda's anti-gay legislation.

Created by J.D. on February 26, 2014

The president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, signed into law on February 24th the Anti-Homosexuality Act. The bill calls for life imprisonment for homosexuals. It also allows for criminal prosecution of individuals who know gay people but do not turn them in to authorities. This is a reprehensible violation of human rights and the US should be compelled to act. The US in 2012 gave $470 million to Uganda. They are a leading recipient of US aide. This petition asks President Obama to review the amount of aide being provided to Uganda. The overwhelming majority of US aide goes toward health, education, environment, peace, and security projects. However, about 15% goes towards government support and economic development. We want to suspend this 15% in aide until Uganda overturns this law.
