It is time that the salary of the U.S. Congress be reduced to "Middle Class" levels. Serving our country as a Congressman should be about the Service To The People. When Congress gets paid a basic annual salary of $174,000, and the American People they represent makes an average of only $46,000 annually, it is not surprising that Congress has lost touch with the People it serves. This reduction in salary will also help make serious cuts in government spending, sparing more important programs that the American people depend on.
Please reduce the salary of a Congressman, somewhere between $35,000 and $45,000 is fair. This lower salary also encourages that only those that want to help our great nation apply for these positions in the first place.
