The reliance on foreign sources of energy make it necessary to maintain a disproportionately large military force. The US government should reduce the size of the military by 10% and push those savings into green energy projects and high-speed rail. The increased domestic energy production will reduce the need for this larger military force and works towards the inevitable task of developing 21st century energy sources. In addition, the development of high-speed rail will help reduce the transport costs of goods, facilitate the movement of a growing, urban-concentrated population, and reduce the consumption of fossil fuels.
