reduce student debt by revoking the unfair law preventing student loans from being discharged through bankruptcy

Created by S.V. on February 24, 2013

Students are graduating with useless degrees, massive unemployment and no way to dig themselves out of impossible debt. The responsible for this unsustainable system lies with unscrupulous lending practices. Mortgage issuers screen customers to make sure they can repay their loans because banks lose when irresponsible loans go into default. Student loan companies, however, have no incentive to give realistic loans, because their customers are held captive even if they are forced to file for bankruptcy. Instead, they provide a steady stream of debt to innocent 18-year-olds who have no idea what they're getting into, or what they're prospects will be upon graduation. Enabling the discharge of unpayable student loans will create incentive for companies to make responsible loans.
