Reduce the term of copyright so that older works may enter the public domain sooner.

The term of copyright has been expanded retroactively on books, movies, and recordings to the point that even works that were created in the 1930s are still protected. Many of these works are very important and are icons of American creativity recognized all over the world, however the vast majority of these works are of interest only to librarians and scholars. These works are in danger of being lost due to them having the same copyright "protection" enjoyed by newly created works that prevents them from being freely used. It would make more sense to reduce the term of copyright and require individuals and corporations to pay a fee to extend copyright beyond a certain time.
