Reduce U.S. Food and Drug Administration Regulations for Rare Diseases

There are more than 6,000 rare diseases that affect around 10% of the American populace, only 5% of these have cures. The FDA provides tax breaks for companies looking to develop cures for rare diseases, but even with this there is still only a 5% interest by the pharmaceutical industry to find cures for rare diseases due to the lengthy and expensive clinical trials that medicines have to go through. The FDA needs to reduce the amount of time that it takes for cures for rare diseases to go through clinical trials since 30% of all children afflicted with rare diseases die under the age of 5 as well as provide grants to these companies so recouping the costs for drug development would be feasible. Only then will there be more of an interest by the pharmaceutical industry in finding cures.
