Reducing the length of the work week is the simple and effective way to absorb the unemployed and to give the employed more free time. There need be no reduction in weekly wages as many employed are underpaid.
Free time is the natural cultural heritage of technological progress.
Reducing the work week will also be a step toward addressing climate change.
We should have adopted as policy the reduction in the work week by the rate of unemployment long ago. Now is better late than never.
