Thousands of National Guard members have been ordered to repay the thousands of dollars they received as enlistment and reenlistment bonuses. While it may be true that these bonuses were handed out erroneously due to the errors of over zealous personnel attempting to meet demanding recruiting goals and it is required by current law for these bonuses to be repaid, the recipients of these bonuses fulfilled their part of this bargain. It is immoral that these personnel, many who were then deployed to war zones, be required to now repay the bonuses that were received in good faith.
We respectfully request the government immediately cease all demands for repayment of these bonuses and that all personnel who have repaid their bonuses be reissued their bonuses immediately.
