America is the land of innovation and will steer the technology of the future, but government funding of scientific research in the US is flawed. The decision on how to allocate funding for scientific research should be determined by the scientific community. Yet only 8 of the 40 members of the US House Committee on Science, Space, & Technology have experience in related fields. The lack of experience in the committee hinders our ability to make educated decisions regarding investments in the scientific field which may impact scientific advances. The way to prevent this is to ensure that we have the right people in place to make educated decisions. I propose to establish a committee made up of representatives of different areas in the scientific field to partner with the House committee.
