Hydraulic Fracturing, commonly known as "fracking," is a process by which natural gas and other fossil fuels are removed from the ground that has known harmful effects yet is not regulated by the United States government. While under examination in Congress, lobbyists created what many call the "Haliburton Loophole" in which this dangerous process is exempted from the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts. The insertion of over 400 unnamed chemicals into the ground to break the bedrock and the questionable means used to contain waste products pose significant threats to the local water table, air quality, and overall health of resident US citizens.
