reform the 1993 Family and Medical Leave Act to make maternity and paternity leave compulsory and paid.

Created by J.G. on January 13, 2013

Dear President Obama,

Thank you very much for considering my petition. I would like to propose a reform to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to entitle employees, male and female, who adopt or gave birth to a child, to have a compulsory, paid maternity or paternity leave for at least 60 days.
There are studies that show that the longer mothers can breastfeed their babies the better for the new born. Also, it will encourage couples to have babies without the pressure to loose their jobs or being indirectly discharged for not being present in their jobs for a few days. Finally, it won't oblige new parents to use sick days or vacations to take care of their newborn. Thank you very much for considering my petition.

Best regards.
