The economy tanked about a year after I graduated college and shortly after my company did lay offs, I was among them. Since then I've had little jobs which don't pay nearly what I figured I'd be getting paid after graduating. My student loans keep accruing interest(3-4% for federal and 7-8% for private) and I pay the minimum since my deferments are up. I would love to contribute to the growth of our economy but the cloud of my payments and credit card debt since my under employment hang over me.
I am not alone, many graduates are in the same boat. I believe every student loan, private and public, should have a one time per loan 5 year window of no interest that can be initiated any time by the borrower. More reform is need to support an educated nation so we can support the economy.
