Our constitution provides for people to elect other people to represent them based upon geographical areas. The introduction of special interest money into campaigns has diluted the ability of people to elect other people who represent them. Special interest contributors who are not constituents have greater influence on the elected official.
To prevent this, only people who are actually constituents of a candidate should be allowed to contribute to their campaign. Everyone else contributing to a campaign is trying to buy influence. Groups of bona fide constituents can still contribute but these groups cannot include funds from non-constituents.
