Reform the Criminal Justice system in honor of the late Kalief Browder

Kalief Browder was held without trial for 3 years at Rikers Island for being accused of stealing a backpack. He was held in solitary confinement for 2 years and lived in fear of the guards and other inmates who would beat and terrorize him throughout his time there, which ultimately contributed to his death at the too-soon age of 22. This is an outrage and a violation of the Sixth Amendment. In honor of Kalief, the criminal justice system must be reformed throughout this country to ensure history will not continue to repeat itself, not only for minorities but for every American citizen. Every American citizen should be guaranteed a speedy trial and the prison system throughout our country should be reformed immediately.
