The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is outdated and needs reform. When a person buys a device it is their device and they should be able to do whatever they please with it whether its modding (jail-breaking) a game system to run different software or unlocking an iPhone so it could be used on a different carrier. Nobody should go to jail for modding something they brought. When a contract for a phone is complete the carrier should do an unlock for free automatically. The phone or device is ours we brought it we paid for it and we should be able to use it how we wish. If the companies want to keep the device or choose how we use it then we should pay a licensing fee of $20-$30 to use it and give it back, instead of buying a device and be left with a paper weight after two years
