Currently when parents separate the mother gets full custody of the child. The father gets some sort of visitation, usually bi weekly seeing their children an average of 4 nights a month. I would like the administration to re form this practice and upon separation give both parents equal custody unless one parent opts out. I do not feel it is fair to say one parent is better then another unless there is true evidence that there is neglect on the part of one of the parents. This neglect must be proven and not be based on the testimony of either parent, but actual proof. This in the end is better for the child which is most important. This would satisfy any child support concerns as both parents would share equal parenting responsibilities, so they would not need to finance the other parent.
