The "expected family contribution" and its weight in the decision of the amount available through student loans greatly hinders several potential and current students from being able to pursue their dreams through the attendance at an institution of higher learning. This petition has been formed to request that the FAFSA be reformed with this request in mind. Though many families contribute to the ability of young people to attend universities, there are several families that do not offer this assistance. Coupled with the hindrances caused by Affirmative Action and other discriminatory practices based on race and sex, many students cannot garner enough funding to put themselves through college. Many of those that can scrape by do so by collecting an enormous amount of debt upon graduation.
