There are too many people who aren't able to pay for school because their family is too poor to afford it and also because their family makes too much to acquire sufficient financial aid. This is because the Expected Family Contribution is derived primarily from a family's Gross Income for the previous year. This is a poor estimate of what a family can actually contribute because it does not take into account any of the family's necessary expenses like veterinarian bills and other bills. Also, a student's family won't necessarily be helping them pay for school which is especially frustrating because there is no way to take that into account either.
