Reform the H-2B Visa Program so that it no longer facilitates the human trafficking of guest workers

Created by S.F. on April 28, 2013

The H2B visa program allows companies to recruit guest workers for 10 months and requires that these migrants only work for one company. For years, corrupt individuals have used H2B to traffic humans (i.e. workers have their travel documents confiscated and are submitted to forced labor/indentured servitude).

We must increase awareness of this practice within vulnerable groups and reform current policies. The government should:

1. Show a video to guest workers at Customs that informs them of their rights
2. Provide guest workers with an index card containing similar info and the number of the National Human Trafficking Hotline
3. Tie employees to an industry rather than an employer

We petition the White House to address the H2B visa program and prevent the trafficking of legal workers.
