In wake of recent high-profile police killings in MN and LA, we are reminded of a very familiar scene: men hired to protect ALL citizens not having the necessary training to do so. Violence against police decreases yearly but civilian deaths by police continue to rise while lawmakers demonstrate inaction. Lethal force is to be used as a LAST RESORT. While officers carry stun guns, batons, and pepper spray to subdue a potential threat, they are trained to shoot to kill.
Mandatory de-escalation training should be implemented across the country. Preemptive tactics, such as careful, methodical instructions and taser use would reduce many unneeded deaths.
We The People, good citizens that are growing more and more fearful of men in uniform, are asking for drastic reform to police procedures.
