To Reform Leif Ericson Day into a National Holiday and a Day of Observance and Celebration

We wish to commence a movement, via petition, to annul the importance of Columbus Day and instead increase that of Leif Ericson Day. So instead of being dismissed from school and work on October 12 (Columbus Day), such celebrations should be held on October 9 (Leif Ericson Day), or the Friday before Columbus Day. To celebrate Leif Ericson Day properly we believe that it should be made a day of observance, with no school, mail, work, etc. People should then be able to dress up as Vikings. Some parades should be held by certain towns, and it should be custom to visit friends and family to symbolize the journey to America. On a more childish approach, we would like to run the SpongeBob SquarePants Bubble Buddy episode (which includes Leif Ericson). Please consider to sign this petition today!
