Current liquor laws that vary from state to state stump both small business and innovation. Draconian laws combined with ludicrous permits; that are guarded by bureaucratic and and only given out on a lottery basis. Make 0 sense when compared to the ideals of our country.
Some facts:
1. The average cost to get the permits for an average distillery is 500,000 dollars. Before having the permit; you CANNOT test or research the making of said liquor.
This seems like the ultimate way of making sure there is no competition ever added to market.
2. Beer and wine is a little better thanks to Carter in 1978; that said; selling beer from homebrew is still hit or miss from state to state. In Mass; the permit fee's are around 15-20 thousand. NH; couple hundred bucks.
