The National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (NVICP) was created to remove vaccine injury claims from the traditional legal system and thereby reduce the risk of a vaccine shortage triggered by a lawsuit. Part of the program allows attorneys to collect fees even if the claim is dismissed.
This has led to a cottage industry of vaccine injury attorneys who practice scare tactics and fear mongering in an effort to drum up clients. In reality, vaccine injury is extremely rare, while refusal to vaccinate is a serious national health concern. These practices spread misinformation and unwarranted fear.
We ask that the President call on Congress to reform the NVICP to make it harder for sleazy attorneys to profit by promoting a health crisis.
