We the people ask the federal government to Change an existing Administration policy:

Reform or eliminate Civil Asset Forfeiture

Created by N.K. on September 17, 2016

Current law allows the government to seize assets on a "preponderance of the evidence" and requires the property owners to pay filing fees to contest the forfeiture while laying the burden of proof on the property owner( even with no charge of a crime). I'm suggesting we eliminate "Civil Asset Forfeiture" altogether or at least make the following changes.
1. Assets may not be seized unless the property owner is being charged with a crime.
2. There must be "clear and convincing evidence" that property or funds were acquired through illegal activity.
3. The burden of proof should be on the government, not the property owner to establish innocence in retrieving seized assets.
