Reform or eliminate the Race To The Top program

The Race To The Top (RTTT) program, a U.S. Department of Education program pitting state education departments against each other for over $4 billion in federal funding, increases federal influence in state education programs, improperly promotes charter schools, and places too much reliance on untested and inaccurate performance evaluations for teachers. It has been criticized by numerous educational authorities and policy experts, and may actually lower educational standards in many states whose standards are higher than the "common core" model promoted by RTTT. Finally, RTTT may promote unfair and disproportionate treatment of states with higher minority populations, in direct violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1965.
